Motorola V710

v710.jpg

The Motorola V710’s clamshell design has many similarities to its predecessors. The two-toned stylish and refined appearance measures 94 x 49 x 23 mm and weighs approximately 4 ounces; large enough to text message conveniently while small enough to comfortably fit in pockets.

The 4-ounce V710 is a sizable (3.7 by 1.9 by 0.9 inches HWD) flip-phone with a sleek businesslike look. For voice calling, it’s great. Calls made from it sounded good on the receiving end, and the speakerphone is loud and clear, though we wish the ear speaker was louder. We’re also glad to see that this phone includes an analog band, which lets it get calls in rural areas where digital-only phones can’t find a signal. All GSM phones and many new CDMA phones lack analog altogether.

Physically, the V710 stacks up quite a bit like its elder brother, the V600. Coming in at 130.2g, it is only a wee bit more than 3 grams heavier than the GSM V600. It is also a couple of millimeters wider and longer, but the same thickness. So it isn’t a fly-weight, micro handset, for sure, but it still feels appropriate. No sense that it is a toy. The two-tone silver/gray body with metal and chrome highlights is rock solid. It feels as if it will last a while, which is what you want, of course.

Data features, on the other hand, were beyond frustrating and completely undermine the V710’s appeal. Though Bluetooth may be the handset’s star attraction, its integration and limited usefulness left us wondering why it was included at all. You can use it to connect with a Bluetooth headset but not to sync with a PC or to transfer pictures, MP3s, your contacts, or any applications. And since there’s no infrared port, you’re left either paying for Verizon’s Get It Now service or using Motorola’s Mobile Office Kit (available from Verizon for $39.99) or a TransFlash card ($30 to $40). Verizon said it limited the Bluetooth functionality to protect security agreements with its Get It Now partners. It promises a software upgrade in the future but only for address book syncing.

Motorola V555

v555.jpg

The Motorola V555 is capable of surfing the Internet with the built in browser of the phone. With this phone, you may also send MMS, or Multimedia Message Service. The phone is also able to use EMS, or Enhanced Message Service. On top of sending messages, the Motorola V555 is equipped with intelligent t9 typing, which allows you to easily type text messages without pressing each key upto 4 times for the correct letter. The Motorola V555 comes fully equipped with a WAP browser, and additionally an HTML browser for normal web page surfing.. including support for java.

The v120t manual will tell you how to enter your own ringtones from the sheet music notes, as it’s the same on this phone, and that’s kind of cool I think. The camera does great in most conditions, though certain mixtures of sun and cloud seem to confuse it a bit. You can take a ton of pictures before the memory fills up for them. Video is great too, but you’ll want to go to Videos/VideoSetup and change the VideoLength from “MMS” to “Maximum” or they’re just too short.

Motorola V505

v505.jpg

The V505 is a quad-band 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz GSM/GPRS phone capable of running on every GSM network in the world. It lacks an infrared port but does include Bluetooth connectivity with the necessary profiles for connecting to Bluetooth headsets, handhelds, and PCs. The V505 supports polyphonic ringtones with a collection of simple ones included (better sounding musical tones are available for download), background wallpaper, and screen savers. There is also a speakerphone mode.

There are a few useful controls on the outside of the mobile. A voice key on the right side activates the voice dialing while a volume rocker and a “smart key” used for selecting menu items are on the left spine. There’s an external antenna, but it’s nonextendable so you don’t have to worry about breaking it when storing the phone in a handbag or a briefcase. We’re not fond of the placement of the headphone jack, which is on top of the unit opposite the antenna. Nor do we like the small, removable, rubber jack cover that is just begging to be lost.

Released for AT&T Wireless, the Motorola V505 is the perfect mobile for posh professionals looking for a device that fits their business and after-hours needs. With a sleek package, the V500 will not only impress coworkers but friends too. Built with quad-band and Bluetooth wireless technology capabilities, the V505 boasts the latest in technology while its frosted, silver housing and perforated metal bezel will keep users styling. From executive meetings to weekend dinner parties, the V505 promises that users will be the star of the mobile circle.

Motorola V323

v323.jpg

The Motorola V323 also offers English and Spanish speaking and display capabilities, which is very useful given the various integrations of society over recent years. The phone also comes with the latest in predictive-text entry technology, which really assists the user in saving time by predicting what words the user will text and enters those words automatically. The Motorola 323 also has the best in speaker phone capabilities, available for those who wish to talk while multitasking. The phone also comes with the now necessary camera that really is quite the standard when it comes to modern mobile phone technology. The camera comes fully equipped with VGA resolution, self-timer options, and a 4X digital zoom, which is really excellent for a camera that is mainly located on a mobile phone’s body.

Inside the V323 is a 65,000-color (176×220 pixels) TFT display. Features include a vibrate mode, text and multimedia messaging, basic PIM functions, a 500-contact phone book, a speakerphone, instant messaging, voice commands, a wireless Web browser, polyphonic ring tones, and a VGA camera. The promised battery life is 2.9 hours of talk time and seven days standby time.

Motorola V300

v300.jpg

The Motorola V300’s features are similar to those found on the higher-end V600. Frequent talkers will appreciate the 1,000-entry phone book, and there’s room for an additional 250 names on the SIM card. The handset also comes with an alarm clock, a voice recorder, a calculator, a date book, text and multimedia messaging (MMS), AOL instant messaging, two Java (J2ME) games (Stuntman and Bejeweled), and WAP 2.0 wireless Web access via T-Mobile’s high-speed GPRS network. One quibble: You can’t turn on the speakerphone until you place a call.

The Motorola V300 is a decently featured mid-range camera phone. It comes with the benefit of voice dialling, an integrated handsfree speaker and a picture phonebook. However, what lets the V300 down badly is its very high weight (123g), low memory and unreliable software - read the user comments below for a flavour of these.

The original case color is blue, the plastic is velvety by touch and reminds SonyEricsson Z200. In general, these device are very similar to each other by target group, design and even material of case (for Z200 such color is name Velvet Blue). V300’s side faces are silver and the aerial is of grey color. Such color combination looks good and varies phone’s appearance. The presence of the aerial doesn’t seem entirely justified, modern clamshells receive built-in aerials. On the other hand, there will be only several models with built-in aerial on the market when this phone is released, so external aerial couldn’t be considered as a serious lack.
